Shedding Light on ‘Zero Tolerance’ Bully Prevention Programs

May 13, 2016

The solution is much more than what’s being taught

Bullying is extremely complex and fragile with much still unknown. Since a real focus on finding a solution to bullying began a few decades ago, a lot has been emphasized about zero tolerance policies with little evidence to prove these policies are working. This idea is mainly focused on half the equation, the elimination of bullying. I realized a few years ago we are never going to eliminate all bullies and thus all bullying. I realized there was this “other” side of the bullying education coin. I started writing “Bernie Gets Bullied” with this in mind. The bullies were in the minority and yet they were winning, this had to change.  [Read more…]

Berniethebull.com is finally live!

April 30, 2016

It’s been a long time, but well worth the wait

From my earlier posts, you know this whole project has been 27 months in the making. As time went on, I told a few more people about the project, but no more than a handful. I really just wanted to make sure that I had a great product to deliver. Of course, I already knew the quality of the book, and those who I shared the project with along the way verified this for me. Now, it is finally here. The moment the website is going live and I get to share Bernie the Bull and “Bernie Gets Bullied” with the world! [Read more…]

The future of Bernie the Bull

Don’t miss part two of The Creation of Bernie Gets Bullied. Over those 27 months, from dream to reality, I kept developing the product and message of Bernie the Bull and “Bernie Gets Bullied”. That is the beauty of what I had developed over those 27 months, and what I hope to take around the country explaining to parents and children. [Read more…]

The book sat for nine months

Don’t miss part one of The Creation of Bernie Gets Bullied. It is really simple why “Bernie Gets Bullied” sat on a digital shelf for nine months…life. Life just got in the way. Our daughter, Kennedy, was four at that time and my wife Deb was pregnant with our now one year old son, Paxton. It wasn’t until November of 2014 that I was able to take the next step in bringing “Bernie Gets Bullied” closer to reality; I hired illustrator Barbara Morrow. The Creation of Bernie Gets Bullied

I realized the anti-bullying message was missing something

It all started in January of 2014. I had just become a father a few years before and at that point my daughter attended daycare and preschool just like any other two or three year old. There was never really any issues; my wife and I would take her to school in the morning and pick her up in the afternoon. It pretty much went that way for the first couple of years. Then, one day she came home with an “incident” report. I was very intrigued about this “incident” report. Something different had occurred in my child’s life, she had an incident! [Read more…]
